The O’Mahony and the Bulgarian Orphans

Peirce Charles O’Mahony (1850-1930), aka The O’Mahony, was a close friend of Charles Stewart Parnell. In 1904, he and his second wife Alice founded St Patrick’s Orphanage in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. The city’s Plostad Pierce O’Mahony, a square, and Ulitza Pierce O’Mahony, a street, are named after him.
