The Rise and Fall of Khan Kenesary of Kazakhstan, 1847

Kenesary Kasymov led a 19th-century Kazakh rebellion against Russian colonial rule, seeking to restore Kazakh sovereignty and traditional governance. Despite his brutal tactics, he became a national hero post-independence. A 1837 manifesto attributed to him also appeals for autonomy, shaping Kazakhstan’s modern identity.
