Published by Thames & Hudson, The Irish Pub was one of the best-selling books in Ireland over Christmas 2008.
A collaboration between Turtle and the photographer James Fennell, the book examines 39 old-style pubs from the cities of Belfast, Dublin and Galway to the isolated crossroads of rural Ireland.
Between 2005 and 2025, 2,119 pubs closed nationwide across in Ireland – a 24.6% decline in publican licenses. Turtle’s book probed the likely fate of the pub in the 21st century?
The book featured prominently in a broadcast on BBC World with positive reviews in National Geographic, The Australian, The Guardian, The Irish Echo, The Irish Times and elsewhere.
